Curriculum & Policies

Overview

At Cumnor Pre-School Nursery we believe that play is an important and essential part of growing up and developing skills.  All our activities are planned around the 'Foundation Stage of Learning' and the 'Early Learning Goals' which continues into the reception class in Primary Schools.  This is the equivalent of the National Curriculum for children aged 3 - 5.

The Foundation Stage

We follow the Principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that set the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to 5.  We believe that each child is unique; that each child needs to develop positive relationships; that the environment is essential in supporting and extending each child's development and that each child learns in different ways and in different rates across all the areas of learning, which are: -

There are six key areas:

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  2. Communication, Language and Literacy
  3. Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  5. Physical Development
  6. Creative Development

Within and beyond these guidelines we aim to stimulate the children's learning in a safe and secure environment with plenty of adult support.
