These sessions are an extension of the usual play activities described in the previous passages but children are encouraged to record their learning. This could be writing or colouring or using some particular skill such as letter formation or sounds, shapes or numbers. The work is kept in a folder as a record of progress.
Parents are encouraged to come in and see their child's folder whenever they like.
The staff team keeps some games, puzzles and toys especially for use at these sessions which are a little more challenging and as we choose to have a high number of adults present at this session (one for every six children) the children receive all the one to one attention and teaching they require.
We also have a computer with lots of interesting software for children of this age, and plenty of books to encourage those children who are ready to begin reading a simple book.
