When your child starts Nursery a member of staff will be allocated to take a special interest in him or her, especially during the settling-in period. As neither individual staff nor children necessarily attend every session your child's key worker may not be there every day your child attends, but we do our best! Please talk to the key worker or the Supervisor if you wish to know about how your child is settling in and/or their progress. Time will be set aside for informal chats with your child's key worker.
You are encouraged to stay at Nursery until your child is happy for you to leave. This may take several sessions so don't feel embarrassed if your child takes longer than others to settle. You know your child best, so if you wish to go at once the decision is yours.
Please feel free to tell the Supervisor if there is anything that might affect your child such as a death of a relative or pet, or a parent being away from home for a long time. This will help the staff understand if the child seems upset or unsettled.
At Nursery children have the opportunity to take part in many different activities which are all the more fun because they can be messy! So please dress your children in clothes which are appropriate for activities involving paint, clay and glue. We encourage the children to wear aprons and overalls too.
Children are also learning to use the toilet independently so clothing which is easy for them to handle by themselves is always the best option. Please keep a change of clothes in their bag for emergencies. If your child is still in nappies please put spares in their bag.
T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Nursery logo are available; details are in your welcome pack.
Milk or water is provided at snack time each session and children are encouraged to drink water whenever they need to. At snack time we have biscuits (digestive or rich tea), breadsticks, fruit and vegetables. Sometimes we have toast, sandwiches or cakes which we have made in the session. Please tell us on the admissions form if your child has any food allergies/requirements.
Please name all items (coats, hats, etc.) especially Nursery sweatshirts and t-shirts. (These can be ordered from us). It would help if items brought into Nursery for our Interest Table were also named. Toys from home do sometimes get lost or mixed up with Nursery things but if your child feels happier with a "cuddly" it will be looked after and kept safe.
Please remember to let the Supervisor know in writing if someone other than the usual parent/carer is collecting your child from Nursery. A printed form is available at Nursery for you to sign. We also operate a password system if arrangements for collecting your child have to be changed at the last minute. You will receive details of this system in the admissions pack.
If children are unwell during the night, please don't bring them to Nursery as they are usually overtired and will not enjoy themselves. Certain 'bugs' and illnesses are very infectious and we would appreciate it if you could keep your child at home until all risk of infecting others has passed. Please inform the Supervisor before 9.00 a.m. if your child is unable to attend their session.
We require written consent to administer any medication, including inhalers, to your child. A printed form is available for this purpose at Nursery.
Please advise the Supervisor and Admissions Secretary in writing of your holiday dates as soon as they are known.
For safety reasons parents are not permitted to bring cars up the school drive at any time. The best place to park is The Vine car park in Glebe Road, not the lay-by in Oxford Road as this is needed for the school bus, nor immediately outside the school gates in front of the post box which is hazardous for all the children attending the school or nursery.
