Cumnor Pre-School Nursery offers part-time pre-school education for children aged two to five years.

Morning sessions for younger children (2 to 3 year olds)

Children can start at the Nursery once they are two years old.  The morning sessions run every day and include a variety of activities from dressing up to the craft of the day.  They can attend the morning sessions until the term before their 4th birthday.  After this they can attend afternoon sessions each day.

Afternoon sessions for older children (rising 4 and above)

We offer afternoon sessions to children from the term of their 4th birthday (rising 4).  These sessions are designed to prepare the children for school with more challenging, curriculum based activities.  In these sessions the ratio of adults is higher than required by national standards (usually one adult per 6 children) so the children are assured of receiving all the one to one attention they need.

Wraparound care for children attending school in the mornings

If your child is attending Cumnor Primary School and only has a part-time (morning) place they can attend our lunch club and afternoon session providing you with full day care for your child in a high quality educational establishment.  The children are collected from School at 12 noon and accompanied across the site to our building by the Nursery staff.  They then attend the lunch club (please provide a packed lunch) in Nursery and stay for the afternoon session with the older Nursery children.  The activities are planned alongside the Foundation Class at Cumnor School to complement one another and the children from the Class often join together with the Nursery for special events or story time.

This is part of the wraparound care provided for school children but if there is a space available then older children attending the afternoon sessions at Nursery can attend the lunch club as well.

NB:  A child is rising 4 on the term of their 4th birthday

(The doors are open 15 minutes before the start time and you are welcome to 'stay and play' with your children whilst the staff complete the preparations for the session).

Our aim is to provide a secure and stimulating environment in which children learn through play, using a variety of educational toys and equipment.  The activities are carefully planned to cover all the areas of the 'Foundation Stage of Learning' (from age 3 to 5) as required by the Government.  Please refer to the section entitled 'Nursery Activities' for more information.  The Nursery provides at least one adult per eight children over the age of three (or one adult per four children for two year olds).
